Since February 1, 2025, the EU AI Act requires mandatory AI competence training for all employees who use AI – consciously or unconsciously.
Article 4 AI Act – AI Competence
Providers and operators of AI systems must ensure that their staff have sufficient technical, legal and ethical competence – depending on the deployment context.
Who is affected by the obligation
✓ All companies, regardless of industry or size
✓ All employees who use AI – e.g. in Customer Service, HR, Sales, IT, Analysis etc.
✓ Also with unconscious use (e.g. through automations or tools with AI components)
Penalties for non-compliance
From August 2, 2025, fines of up to €35 million or 7% of worldwide annual turnover apply – whichever is higher (Art. 99 Para. 3 AI Regulation)
